New Hernia service in Leicestershire

A new county-wide specialist community hernia service will roll out fully this week for all patients registered with a GP practice in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This service has been commissioned by Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Provider Company Limited to reduce waiting times for patients and reduce the risk of patients operations being cancelled on or before the day of surgery and therefore improving patient experience. The new model also supports the NHS Five Year Forward View and STP aspirations to support patients closer to their own homes.

Patients will be seen in local GP practices in Leicester City at the County Practice in Syston, the Merlyn Vaz Health Centre and from Leicestershire from the Castle Medical Group in Ashby de la Zouche and Heath Lane Surgery in Earl Shilton with surgery being delivered from an upgraded surgical theatre space at the County Practice in Syston.

Independent Health Group has been providing a hernia service across Swindon and Wiltshire since 2006 and during that time the Group have operated on approximately 4,000 patients with excellent patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Claire Damen, Chief Operating Officer said “We are delighted to be able to offer our well established community hernia service model to the benefit of patients in Leicestershire where we aim to provide the same high quality safe effective care as in our Wilshire hernia service.”

Dr Wordsworth, Chief Executive said – “We pride ourselves on the quality of care we provide our patients. The feedback we get from patients is excellent and we absolutely believe that patients always come first which is reflected in all that we do.”
