A new county-wide specialist community hernia service is now available for all patients registered with a GP practice in Gloucestershire. This service has been commissioned by Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group to create much needed additional capacity, reduce waiting times for patients and reduce the risk of patients operations being cancelled on or before the day of surgery, therefore improving patient experience. The new model supports the NHS Five Year Forward View and aspirations to support patients closer to their own homes.
Patients will be seen at The Aspen Centre, Gloucester. Those patients requiring surgery will be offered a full choice of hospital providers. Patients who are suitable for local anesthetic surgery will also be offered the choice of being treated within the operating theatre suite at The Aspen Centre.
